Injuries May Make NFL Betting on the Buccaneers and Packers Tricky
By Charles Jay
NFL betting is going to be a little tricky in what should have been billed as a battle of the NFC contenders. The Green Bay Packers weren’t dead after all; they demonstrated that by taking care of business rather matter-of-factly in Chicago. So all is well in the NFL’s smallest market. Or is it? Is Aaron Rodgers ready to go on a drive to win his fifth MVP award? Or does he still lack the receivers to do it?
BetAnySports patrons are probably going to get answers for all of this on Sunday, as the Packers take on Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a game that begins at 4:25 PM ET at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
There are no words to describe how disjointed the Packers were on the opening weekend as they fell 23-7 to the Minnesota Vikings. Rodgers, who had lost the likes of Davante Adams and Marquez Valdez-Scantling in the off-season, had some difficulty for the guys who were left, including rookie Christian Watson, who dropped a sure touchdown pass.
Many people refused to panic, since Rodgers had really spit the bit against New Orleans in the first game of the 2021 campaign, then bounced back to capture his fourth MVP award.
And Green Bay was much more efficient against Chicago, both on the ground and in the air. After the 27-10 win, Rodgers still “owns” the Bears.

NFL Betting — About the Tampa Bay Bucs
Tom Brady always seems to have problems with the New Orleans defense, and even in a 20-10 win, he got headaches, going 18 of 34 for 190 yards. He also instigated a brawl on the field that resulted in the suspension of Mike Evans. Beyond that, the Bucs have more concerns with receivers. Chris Godwin was out of the lineup with a hamstring issue last week, and he may not suit up. Julio Jones was out with a knee injury last week. Scotty Miller (calf) and Breshad Perriman (knee) are also nursing injuries. Leonard Fournette would be a guy for the Bucs to turn to, but he’s questionable with a hamstring injury.
NFL Betting — About the Green Bay Packers
The Packers like having Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon in the lineup at the same time, and the run game is obviously something not enough people notice with the presence of Rodgers so prominent. But they had 203 rushing yards last week, which obviously makes things easier. Rodgers found seven different receivers with at least three targets. Allen Lazard returned from an injury to catch a touchdown pass. Rodgers demonstrated that he will lean on the veterans if he has to, rather than rookies who drop passes.
Vet receiver Sammy Watkins isn’t going to play. But the team is hopeful that tackle David Bakhtiari, who’s been out with a knee injury, will be able to make the start.
NFL Betting — Our conclusion
Everybody probably thinks that the Packers are probably closer to the team that played Chicago than the one that lost to Minnesota. But we’re not willing to concede that we could see an aerial circus now. Tampa Bay’s defensive front may be the best in the NFL against the run; they are ranked #1 in “Stuff Rate” at the moment (granted, it’s early). But the Bucs have the ability to neutralize what Green Bay can do on the ground, and that’s a difference-maker, as we lay a point with Todd Bowles’ crew.
