NFL Betting – Giants Establish Position In NFC With Blowout Win Over 49ers
In a rematch of last year’s NFC Championship game, the New York Giants established their position on the short list of contenders with a dominant 26-3 road win over the San Francisco 49ers. Eli Manning threw for 193 yards and a touchdown, Ahmad Bradshaw rushed for 116 yards and another score, and the Giants’ defense forced three interceptions as New York scored 26-unanswered points on its way to a blowout win. However, the scope of what happened at Candlestick Park on Tuesday reached well beyond the final result, as the Giants established themselves among the top contenders in the NFC.
The sports betting future odds didn’t shift that much in wake of what happened on Sunday, with the undefeated Atlanta Falcons still the NFC favorites at +333, followed by the 49ers at +350, the Green Bay Packers at +400, and the Giants at +450. A case can certainly be made for all four teams, especially after the Packers dismantled the previously undefeated Texans in a 42-24 road win on Sunday Night Football. However, New York has already beaten San Francisco in impressive fashion, and should match up well against Atlanta and Green Bay.
The Giants will play the Falcons in week 15, but Atlanta will gets its fair share of tests along the way well before then. Matt Ryan and company enter their bye week at 6-0, but will face a tough schedule coming out of it with trips to Philadelphia and New Orleans broken up by a home date against the Dallas Cowboys. A relatively mediocre schedule has made it easy on the Falcons so far, and they did show signs of vulnerability in a close 23-20 win over the Oakland Raiders this past NFL betting week.
As for Green Bay, a 37-20 home loss to New York in the NFC Divisional playoff a year ago is still fresh in the memory of Aaron Rodgers, but in order to get back to that football betting level it will take a lot of work. The Packers’ offense finally seemed to come alive in a big win over the Texans, but maintaining a level of consistency the remainder of the way won’t be easy, particularly with the Chicago Bears and Detroit Lions in their division. Rodgers has been sacked more than any other quarterback not named Kevin Kolb, and if he can’t stay healthy then Green Bay will be in big trouble.
All of this brings us back to the Giants, who if not for a last-second missed field goal against the Eagles in week four would be 5-1 heading in to this week. New York has shown a ton of character over the last couple of online sportsbook weeks and actually improved on both sides of the ball, even with key injuries including the one to wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. The Giants will look to get their first division win when they host the Washington Redskins this Sunday, and at +450 odds to win their conference, right now might be the best time to bet on them in the NFC.
