Northwestern Looks to Derail Indiana’s Season
The Northwestern Wildcats will be on the road to take on the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday night. These two teams have had vastly different results this season, but it should be an entertaining game no matter what.
But before we get into the preview. The college football season is officially wide open after the downfall of multiple ranked teams this past weekend. Big games are still on the schedule for everybody, and the road to the College Football Playoff is there for the taking. While the two teams in this contest won’t find themselves in the playoff at the end of the season, they do have a chance to spoil the road for some of the other top teams.
Divergent Paths
Indiana comes into this game at 6-2, with the best team it has had in recent years. Their offensive is explosive in both aspects of the game, averaging over 450 yards and 34 points per contest. The Hoosiers have been able to look the part of one of the stronger teams in the Big Ten, but they still find themselves on the outside of those three or four teams at the top.
There is bad, and then there is Northwestern’s 2019 football season. It was a season filled with high hopes after last year’s appearance in the Big Ten Championship Game, but just about everything has not panned out like anyone thought.
Northwestern has been suffering the complete opposite of success. The Wildcats have yet to earn themselves a conference win this season and are sitting at 1-6 overall on the year. Their lone win came against UNLV in week two, and they have lost five straight since then.
Their offense, unlike Indiana, has been abhorrent, averaging a measly 10 points per game and less than 300 yards. There really is not a whole lot to love here with Northwestern, and a road contest against Indiana is going to be an uphill battle all the way through.
The Wildcats are fresh off a shutout from Iowa, where they could not score a single point at home against the Hawkeyes.

This, That and a NCAA Football Dart Throw
The biggest thing that will stand out to anyone watching this game is Indiana‘s top wide receiver. Whop Philyor has 57 catches on the season that are good for 737 yards and three touchdowns. He is the go-to target for quarterback Michael Penix Jr., and even with other teams knowing his explosiveness, he still finds ways to get open.
Philyor is the most important cog in this Indiana offense, as his presence on the field opens up holes for running back Stevie Scott III to run. Scott is a quality back who can break out against any defense, especially one as soft as Northwestern.
Northwestern‘s starting quarterback, Aidan Smith, has only one passing touchdown on the season, which is a tough pill to swallow for any coach or offensive coordinator at this point in the season.
If there is any bright spot for the Wildcats, it is Drake Anderson. Anderson has been solid all year at the running back position, but by no means is he going to be able to carry this offense for Northwestern.
After all of this talk about Northwestern’s struggles, it is no secret that Indiana will be favored at home. Our friends at VietBet have Indiana in this game at -12.5. Philyor is poised to have another breakout, explosive game, and I like Indiana scoring lots of points in this matchup.
Even if Northwestern can contain Indiana’s offense, I do not think they will be able to score enough to make any noise. You would have to have a lot to like or some insider info if you pick Northwestern in this game.
The Dart Throw: Indiana at -12.5
