Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, North Carolina Tar Heels, and NCAA Football. We are at the midway point for the college football season, and this year is shaping up to be one of the best yet. Upsets and College Football Playoff bids are being set, and there is still a whole second half of the season to go.
The ACC is one of the conferences with a number of question marks. Besides Clemson at the top of the conference, the rest of the teams have yet to find themselves.
Two teams that have been on the wrong side of this season are the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. These two have struggled to put together any consistency and have found themselves at the bottom of the barrel in the conference.
North Carolina is 2-3 on the year, but last week they pushed the Clemson Tigers to the edge. The Tar Heels scored late in the fourth quarter and went for a two-point conversion to try and win the game on their home field.
Sadly, they came up short and lost the game 21-20. Mack Brown is impacting the culture for North Carolina and is putting some faith back into their football program.
Quarterback Sam Howell has been terrific so far this season, throwing for 1,168 yards passing and 11 touchdowns through five games. With Howell at the helm, the offense is scoring around 24 points a game, which is pretty good for a basketball school.
Georgia Tech is a Team in Transition, Can they Slow down UNC?
On the other side, Georgia Tech has struggled all season. The Yellow Jackets are 1-3 after losing their last two outings to The Citadel and Temple.
Georgia Tech is averaging a pedestrian 13.5 points per game on the season and have really struggled to make anything happen on that side of the ball. Their defense has not been much better, giving up 28.3 points per game.
The Yellow Jackets started a new quarterback in their last outing. James Graham went 10-24 with only 100 yards passing and one interception. He looked sloppy against Temple, and Georgia Tech finished the game with only two points from a safety.
Both of these teams have been struggling, but I believe that Georgia Tech has some problems that might not be fixable for this season. The Tar Heels have lost three straight games but were in all of those games down to the wire.

This, that and a college football dart throw
Our friends over at VietBet have the North Carolina Tar Heels favored on the road against Georgia Tech at -10.5. North Carolina may have lost as many games as Georgia Tech, but they have been covering their spreads so far this year.
I really can not envision a scenario where Georgia Tech comes out and wins this football game. They have too many question marks at the quarterback position, their defense has been shaky at best, and their offense can’t seem to get anything going in these games.
The Yellow Jackets coming off of a game where they scored two points does not feel like a recipe for success, and while they will probably score more in this game, it still does not feel too good to take them.
The Tar Heels have a very slow and methodical offense that will break their opponent down over the course of the game. Howell will likely come out and have a strong showing at quarterback, and I like everything about the direction that this program is heading in.
The Tar Heels will come out and break their three-game losing streak in this ACC road contest. They will end up making a bowl this year, and if they want to make it into the postseason, this is a game that they have to win.
