Wilson Hopes to Rebound For the Seattle Seahawks vs The Washington Football Team … Can He?
By Charles Jay
Undoubtedly the Monday Night Football Odds were affected by the injury that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has been dealing with. Many BetAnySports patrons felt he was coming back too soon from a broken finger, and the fact that he has completed only a little more than half his passes in two starts is definitely cause for alarm.
That is compounded by the fact that his counterpart, Taylor Heinicke of the Washington Football Team, has been pretty hot of late.
After losing five of their last six games, the Seahawks have to do something to remain relevant. Will that start with Monday night’s contest at FedEx Field in Landover?

Monday Night Football Odds — What’s Wilson done lately?
Let’s put it this way – Wilson has started the last two games. He has completed 51.5% of his passes, with 5.6 yards per attempt. In one of those games the ‘Hawks were shut out by the Green Bay Packers. In seven starts on the season, he’s reached the 300-yard mark only once.
And his receivers look like they are under-utilized. Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf have combined for over 1400 yards, and Wilson needs to find them in order to exploit a Washington secondary that is 30th in the league in giving up passing yards.
Monday Night Football Odds — What’s Heinicke done lately?
Well, Heinicke, considered something of a journeyman, has stepped in and done well upon the injury to Ryan Fitzpatrick. Over the last two games he’s been particularly effective, with 462 yards on 78% completions. In the first of those games, the WFT beat Tampa Bay, and Heinicke led the team on a drive that lasted over ten minutes to help ice the victory.

Monday Night Football Odds — The Washington defense
Last year this team was actually dominant at times on the defensive side of the ball, as the WFT drive to a playoff spot. But they just haven’t been effective this season. They have allowed opponents to convert 53% on third down, which is worst in the league. They have also given up more points per drive than all but one team. This does not bode well for them if we see anything but a shell of Wilson out there.
Monday Night Football Odds — The Seattle defense
Seattle does not do well in a number of statistical categories. They are ranked even lower than Washington against the pass – in fact, they have allowed more yards per game than anyone in the NFL. And that isn’t because opponents can’t make their way on the ground either, as only nine teams have surrendered more rushing yards on a per-game basis.
What makes the Seahawks a little different than most is that they have somehow been able to prevent this from converting into points. They are ninth best in the red zone, and while they are 31st in yards allowed per drive, they are second in yards allowed per point. Only New England has been better in that respect. And that means something here.
Monday Night Football Odds — Our conclusion
The differences in defensive performance, where it counts, as illustrated above, may be the fundamental difference in this game. Seattle is better at keeping its opponents out of the end zone. They have a better QB (when he’s on his game) and superior wide receivers.
They also have some decent trends going in their favor; namely that they have covered 16 of their last 19 when coming off losing multiple games. Pete Carroll has been a nice proposition after a straight-up loss with Wilson at quarterback (61.5% ATS), so we’re not intimidated with Seattle going on the road here, although we would add that the “under” isn’t a bad play either.
