New York Giants are Looking for Validity on Monday Night Football
By Charles Jay
Monday Night Football is here to close out week three of the NFL season. The New York Giants are a team that really has some hope right now. In this organization, getting off to a 2-0 start is truly a big deal.
Of course there are a lot of questions that remain unanswered about this team. And some of the signs are still not good. But BetOnline customers know that they are a little better equipped in the coaching department then they have been in recent years.
Coming off a victory against the Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers, the Giants are at home on Monday night as they host their hated NFC East Rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. Eastern time at MetLife Stadium.
The Giants, of course, went out and signed Brian Daboll as head coach. This selection seemed to be met with almost unanimous approval, as Daboll came from a very successful stint with the Buffalo Bills as offensive coordinator. Another important move was to hire Wink Martindale as defensive coordinator, and that unit seems to be playing with a lot more spirit.
Dallas is doing what it can to get along without quarterback Dak Prescott. And so far, so good. Cooper Rush, who came to the Cowboys after being undrafted in 2017, threw for 235 yards on 31 attempts in last week’s 20-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. But there is some uncertainty surrounding this offense, because injuries have hurt them a great deal.

Monday Night Football Betting — Thomas meets his match in Parsons
One of the interesting revelations about what’s going on this season is that Andrew Thomas has become a genuine anchor for the offensive line from his left tackle position. Currently he is ranked at the top of the heap in terms of efficiency by the respected Pro Football Focus. He’ll be tested against Micah Parsons in this one. Parsons, who had two sacks against Cincinnati last week, is about the closest thing the Lawrence Taylor that exists in the NFL, at the risk of sounding sacrilegious, of course.
Monday Night Football Betting — Wide receiver controversy for the New York Giants?
But the Giants have converted only 28.6% of the time on third down, and there’s a lot of curiosity about why wide receivers Kenny Golladay, Darius Slayton and Kadarius Toney have gotten little or no playing time. Golladay has actually been pretty vocal about it. Let’s hope Daboll doesn’t lose the locker room over things like this.
As it is, Richie James and Sterling Shepard both went over the 100-yard mark last week, and then there is the presence of Saquon Barkley, who is always a threat to dominate.
Monday Night Football Betting — Rush is prepared
The strength of having Rush as a backup quarterback for Dallas is at he knows the offensive system cold. When Jason Garrett took off for the Giants to assume the coordinator duties, Kellen Moore kept most of the components of the scheme, so there was continuity. Interesting Lee enough, Rush went with Garrett to the Giants, but was later let go.
Receiver Michael Gallup will not be able to play in this game, as he’s not ready to return from his knee injury. But the Cowboys got an unexpected spark out of Noah Brown, who caught ten passes for 159 yards and a touchdown last week. Tony Pollard has made two big plays thus far, but on his other 19 touches he’s gained only 57 yards. They could use more from him.
Monday Night Football Betting — Our conclusion
There are certainly reasons to like – or dislike – either team. For example, the Cowboys are even worse than the Giants are on third down, converting only 24%. But the defensive backs for the Cowboys can deal with the Giants wide receivers, and Parsons is going to be very difficult to neutralize. In this near pick’em matchup, we’re siding with the Cowboys.
