What’s the “Book” on the New Orleans Saints’ New QB? The Miami Dolphins are Wondering
By Charles Jay
The New Orleans Saints didn’t spring Ian Book on us all of a sudden, as they knew late last week that Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill were going to be in the COVID-19 protocol, but he is coming into a tough spot, on a big stage, without any experience. And as BetAnySports patrons may be well aware of, guys without experience sometimes get swallowed up by the moment.
So we’re going to be discussing what we might expect from his maiden voyage in the NFL, which comes against an opponent – the Miami Dolphins – who have won six games in a row. And for this 8:15 PM ET kickoff (ESPN), we’ll do it from the perspective of Prop Builder, a tremendous option that offers all kinds of betting angles for you, which really enhances your enjoyment of the game.
Let’s take a look at some of the props that are concerning Book:

MNF Props Betting — Passing Yards – Ian Book
Over 187.5 Yards -114
Under 187.5 Yards -114
The Saints have had three different starting quarterbacks this season – Jameis Winston, Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian. In the Saints’ 14 games, this posted figure has been surpassed seven times. New Orleans has averaged 194 passing yards per game, which ranks them 30th in the NFL.
So if you like the “over” here, you’d be saying that you are confident that Book will meet and / or surpass the standard the Saints have had with these quarterbacks.
We don’t necessarily share that confidence, and one of the reasons is that the Miami defensive game plan is going to center around making life difficult for him and limiting the time he has to make decisions. With 110 quarterback hits, they led the NFL coming into Week 16.
So we’d be looking UNDER on this one at BetAnySports.
MNF Props Betting — Rushing Yards – Ian Book
Over 27.5 Yards -114
Under 27.5 Yards -114
I like the OVER on this, and there are a couple of reasons.
One is that this may be a simplified way for Book to try to move his team down the field. The Saints are a running team by nature, and if he were to just take off with it, or execute a run that is “programmed,” he wouldn’t have to concern himself with reading a pass defense.
It is something the Saints have been doing with Taysom Hill at quarterback, and he has been able to get the job done to a considerable degree.
Also, it is in Book’s nature to do this. And he did it a lot in Brian Kelly’s offense at Notre Dame, with 228 attempts for 1031 yards in his last two seasons with the Fighting Irish. So this is something Miami has to be ready to defend.
MNF Props Betting — Marquez Callaway – Receiving Yards
Let’s talk about one of Book’s receivers now. Marquez Callaway may be the top option on Monday night, as he’s coming off only the second receiving game of 100+ yards this season. In only two other games has he exceeded 50 yards.
So his over-under on receiving yards goes like this:
Over 34.5 Yards -114
Under 34.5 Yards -114
take into consideration that Callaway’s “catch rate,” denoting the percentage of passes thrown his way that he has caught, is only 52.9%. And he is working with a quarterback who has nine completions in 16 attempts for 126 yards and an interception in an exhibition game, encompassing his entire body of NFL work, and we aren’t uncomfortable about going UNDER here.
