MLB Betting – Giants Ready For Another World Series Run
The San Francisco Giants were pushed to the verge of elimination after being outscored 14-2 in consecutive home losses to the Cincinnati Reds to open their National League Divisional Series. Down 2-0 as the best of five series shifted to Cincinnati, a struggling Giants’ offense had managed just nine combined hits, including only two in a 9-0 game two loss. Making matters worse was the fact that the Reds had not lost three-in-a-row at home all season. However, San Francisco rallied for a 2-1 win in game three despite registering just three hits, a victory that for an outsider seemed to shift the momentum of the series. The sports betting numbers are testament to that it was a turning point in the series, as the Giants exploded for 14 runs over the final two games and completed the comeback with three-straight road wins. After that incredible comeback, it would be difficult not to appreciate San Francisco’s chances in the NL, and if they continue to perform at such a high level on both sides of the ball the Giants could be a surprise World Series winner at +350 odds.
The offense will continue to rally around NL MVP candidate Buster Posey, whose Grand Slam in the top of the fifth ended a scoreless start and sparked San Francisco’s series-clinching win. Posey hit just .211 in the online sportsbook series, but was able to produce when it mattered the most and can now look to build on that heading in to NLCS. Veteran Pablo Sandoval led the Giants with a .333 average in the series, and it only made sense to move him to the three-spot and allow Posey to clean up with the potential for the latter to become the leadoff man in case of a 1-2-3 first. Angel Pagan and Marco Scutaro struggled at the top of the San Francisco order, but each scored in game five. Hunter Pence went 2-for-4 in game five, and could provide some power behind Posey in the five-spot.
Once again, the Giants’ offense will only need to do so much behind one of the best pitching staffs remaining in the online betting postseason. Matt Cain is undoubtedly the ace on this staff, but there could be an intriguing situation brewing with Tim Lincecum, who was brilliant in relief for Barry Zito in game four. Lincecum tossed 6.1 innings, allowing just one run in relief of Zito, who was tagged for four earned runs in just 2.2 innings of work. Lincecum’s move to the bullpen was the result of an awful regular season, but with a pair of Cy Young awards on his resume and that strong performance in game four, he could be back in the starting rotation soon.
The Giants are one series away from the World Series, and are riding a ton of momentum after their improbable comeback. As long as the offense continues to produce, and the pitching holds its own as the strength of this team , San Francisco could very well be the team that wins the 2012 World Series.
