North Coast Sports Star Picks For Saturday 1/10/15 N.F.L. Playoffs!!!!!
Go Get Em Boys!!!!
UNDER RAVENS/PATRIOTS Rating:1 Star
BAL is 2-1 SU/3-0 ATS in the playoffs vs NE & this is their 3rd road game in 4 wks. Brady has only avg'd 238 ypg (56%) 3-7 in the postseason matchups vs BAL but they no longer have Reed/Lewis who gave him fits. NE went 7-1 SU/5-3 ATS at home with +35 ypg (+7 TO's). BAL is now 5-4 SU/ATS on the road for -23 ypg (-2 TO's) but LW's win was the first vs a '14 playoff team after 3 lossses.
Flacco set a career high in passing yds/TD's in Kubiak's 1st year & has a 1,000 yd WR/1,200 yd RB both of whom weren't on LY's roster. In his L5 playoff games Flacco has avg'd 280 ypg (59%, 13-0) covering all 5. BAL has fielded 5 diff OL combos TY & its not known if LT Eugene Monroe will return here. BAL has a Harbaugh high 18 players on IR inc 6 DB's & their pass rush (49 sks) & string of weak QB's to end the ssn disguised that. Earning 5 sacks at PIT is still an impressive feat & BAL had the #2 red zone defense TY. BAL went 2-4 SU/ATS vs playoff tms in the reg ssn for -7 ypg (+2 TO's) & are 8-6 SU/6-8 ATS after facing PIT.
The NE offense didn't kick into gear until gm#5 as the OL settled in but more importantly Gronkowski was fully healthy. Over the next 11 games Brady connected for 294 ypg (66%) 29-7. In that span Gronkowski was 16% of NE's rec's but 30% of the yds & is a unani- mous All Pro pick at TE. The other receivers are situational players with Edelman being best of the rest. NE's #13 def is ridiculously deep in the secondary & their defensive pass numbers are tainted by garbage yards. The Patriots don't have a player with DD sacks, but the system is designed to force TO's via pressure. NE went 4-1 SU/ATS vs playoff teams for +47 ypg (+3 TO's) which is 5th best.
NE is just 3-8 ATS at home since beating PHI in the SB in the playoffs & BAL has covered 6 straight playoff games. Both teams field physical defenses & BAL won't be intimidated by Brady. Look for both teams to rely on the ground game to control tempo in a lower scoring event.
UNDER PANTHERS/SEAHAWKS Rating: 2 Star
This is the 4th meeting in 3 yrs & while SEA is 3-0 SU/2-1 ATS their wins have been by 4, 5, 4 pts. Carroll noted after TY's meeting that the teams are similar in design which accounts for the tough play. Newton has been sacked 8 times with a total of 437 yds passing vs SEA. CAR is 3-4-1 SU/4-4 away with +14 ypg (+1 TO's) while SEA is +66 ypg (+5 TO's) for a 7-1 SU/6-2 ATS mark. This is the 1st time Carroll's Seahawks host the Panthers.
CAR peaked at the right time overcoming their OL/WR changes from the start & have outgained foes by 139 ypg in their L7 games. CAR has also overcome its share of inj's esp to Newton who's tough- ness & mobility have been vital to the offense. Benjamin/Olsen are the Panthers 1st duo of 1,000 yd rec's since 1999 & the return of Stewart at RB has reduced the wear & tear on Newton. The defensive strength is at LB headed up by Kuechly who has helped anchor a defense allowing under 100 yds rushing in 6 of its L7 games with 17 sks in Dec. CAR went 1-4 SU/2-3 ATS vs playoff tms for -69 ypg (+0 TO's) in the reg ssn but prior to ARZ didn't face one since 10/26.
SEA finished as the #1 rush offense despite starting 7 diff OL combos due to Lynch's power (#4 rusher) & Wilson's ability to improvise (#16 rusher). SEA outgained foes in 11 straight to close out the reg ssn but over the L8 gms were +175 ypg. This is despite leading the NFL in penalties for the 2nd straight yr & only having 1 player w/ over 550 yds rec (Baldwin). SEA has finished #1 in def for B2B years & while they don't have as many Ints as LY (13 vs 28) they are still solid in 3rd Dn defense & 2nd to DEN in defensive ypa. The secondary gets the publicity but SEA has arguably the best coverage LB's in the NFL. SEA went 5-1 SU/4-2 ATS for +86 ypg (+4 TO's) vs playoff teams with DAL being the loss.
These teams have combined for 69 pts in the L3 meetings & their strengths cancel each other out. CAR's long road trip, a loud venue inclement weather & SEA's #1 scoring defense for the 3rd year in a row has the Under as the play.

I think they did pretty well last week, and the week prior to that also.
I was going to tail blindly this week, but North Coast seemed to be the only adviser going with the unders, while everybody else was on the overs. So I let North Coast talk me out of a couple of winners yesterday - but still have a warm glow from last week.
NorthCoast is streaky like all of the Newsletters.. I used to get 27 a week (all of the college and NFL ones) and send them out to people.. they are invaluable for their information and stats but all but the late week ones that come out on Thursdays all their picks are made well in advance and are not factoring in injuries and other issues with teams.

I hear ya. I spent some time trying to see if I could find any games where a large percentage of tout's were in agreement. It didn't take long to discover that almost every game will end up with about an equal number of experts on each side.
Known's thread of random picks will probably have about the same result over the long run as that of any random tout. Handicapping seems to boil down to mere guessing as long as the bookies are doing their job well.
( I know handicappers will not like my conclusion here, but show me one that wins consistently year after year. I have heard of Billy Walters, of course, and perhaps there are winners out there that keep quiet. But what I have seen thus far seems to be only guessing.)
