Lewandowski is considered to be one of the best scorers in soccer history, but his skills are underappreciated, as seen by the latest Ballon d'Or. Leo Messi gets his 7th Ballon d'Or, and it basically seems to be a choice between Messi and Ronaldo.
The criteria of the award does seem to justify Messi's win, but I do think it is a bit antiquated. The third criteria is about career performance. Messi and Ronaldo are in a league of their own. Shouldnt the jury consider other players who are in their prime (or almost past it) and may deserve the award too?
