Dodgers Starter McCarthy Fresh off of DL
The Kansas City Royals and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in Chavez Ravine on Saturday and they will do battle at Dodger Stadium. Maybe if traffic isn’t too bad the fans can get there in time to see what should be a stellar pitching matchup. First pitch is around 7:15 EST.
Oddsmakers opened the Dodgers as -188-moneyline favorites versus the Royals, while the game’s total opened at 8.5. The Dodgers are now -195-moneyline favorites. The total has inched up to 9.
Brandon McCarthy will be on the mound for the Dodgers The right hander has a 3.25 ERA to go along with a 6-3 record this season. McCarthy is fresh off the 10-day disabled list with what was described as a knee sprain. His last start, that landed him on the DL, was a disaster. He lasted only three innings and had two wild pitches in the 2nd inning.
He was brilliant in his six prior starts. McCarthy threw 34 1/3 innings while allowing 22 hits, eight walks and six runs. The 2017 season has been his best run since 2014. He went 7-5 with a 2.89 in 14 starts with the Yankees after a mid-season trade.
Royals Look to Keep Hot Streak Going
The Royals will pin their hopes on the pitching of right hander Ian Kennedy in this game. Kennedy has a 3-6 record and a 4.44 ERA this season. The veteran right-hander has been unbelievable in his last four starts. The Royals have overcome a horrendous April. They had everyone in baseball speculating that the Royals would soon be breaking up the nucleus of their 2015 World Series championship team. With a lot of big name free agents coming up this off-season, they thoughts were understandable.
KC has won 18 of their last 25 to move into contention in the AL Central at the All-Star break. The Royals have won in Kennedy’s last four starts. He has gone six innings or more in three of them. His last start was a gutty 6 2/3 innings in a win over Seattle on a day when the Royals bullpen was spent. He has allowed only 14 hits and six earned runs in those four starts.
Los Angeles was a 4-1 w last night against the Royals. They won as -192 favorites, while the total score of 5 made winners ofunder bettors.
