Argos out for Redemption Against Blue Bombers
The Toronto Argonauts and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers meet on Friday at Investors Group Field. The Blue Bombers are looking for a repeat performance while the Argos will be out for redemption when the two teams clash for a second straight week.
The Bombers were dominant at
BMO Field in Week 6. They took down the Argos 38-20 as Winnipeg jumped out to an early start. The Bombers never looked back, scoring 15 points in the first quarter.
Kickoff is at 8:30 p.m. ET and can be seen on TSN, RDS, ESPN+. Oddsmakers have Winnipeg as 10-point favorites. The total is at 53.5.
Stringing together a pair of wins has been tough to start the season. Only Calgary, Hamilton and Saskatchewan have won back-to-back games over the first six weeks.
Blue Bombers Offense Was in High Gear
It was a career day for running back Andrew Harris. He rushed for 161 yards and two touchdown in the victory. QB Matt Nichols was also impressive. He completed 19-of-27 attempts for 245 yards and two touchdown passes. He also ran for another touchdown.
The Bombers’ defense held strong as well. They held the Argos to just 173 yards on offense.
The Bombers made some moves this week. They shipped receiver Adarius Bowman to the
Montreal Alouettes for a conditional eighth round draft pick in 2019.
The three-time West Division all-star never hit his stride in Winnipeg. He managed just 95 yards and no touchdowns in six regular season games.
Rookie Kenbrell Thompkins is put into the lineup. The 29-year-old is slated to start in place of the now-departed Bowman. The former NFL receiver practiced with the first-team offense all week.
league leading rusher in touchdowns is running back Andrew Harris. He leads the CFL with 5 touchdowns. Harris has racked up 610 yards in only six games this season. He is coming off of three straight 100-yard plus games. During that span, the 31-year-old has 409 yards on 52 carries.
Bombers receiver Weston Dressler has caught a pass in 118 straight games. That is the eighth longest in CFL history. His last game without a catch was Aug. 12, 2010.
Argos Not Happy About Start to Season
The Toronto Argonauts are not happy with their start to the 2018 season. The reigning
Grey Cup champions have struggled out of the gate. They are tied with the Montreal Alouettes at the bottom of the East Division with a 1-4 record.
The team has had to face some early adversity after losing franchise quarterback Ricky Ray so early.
Quarterback James Franklin managed only 151 passing yards last week. He threw no touchdowns and one interception. The run game also struggled, as the Argos picked up 24 yards on the ground.
The only bright spot in the game was two fumble recoveries by the Argos’ defense that were returned for touchdowns.
There is some good news for the Argos to pass on. Running back James Wilder Jr. is healthy for Friday’s matchup after being injured during practice earlier in the week. He is the reigning
CFL rookie of the year.
The Argos offense is only averaging 277 yards per game in net yardage.
