Minnesota Golden Gophers Look to Upset the TCU Horned Frogs
BetAnySports’ College Football Pick of the Week
TCU Horned Frogs at Minnesota Golden Gophers- Thursday, Sept. 3
The No. 2 TCU Horned Frogs, out of the Big 12 begin the new college football season on the road this Thursday night against the Big Ten’s Minnesota Golden Gophers. BetAnySports has listed TCU as a 14-point road favorite and the betting odds for the total have been set at 57.
Expectations are running high for the Horned Frogs following last season’s straight-up record of 12-1 that included a lone 61-58 loss to Baylor in early October as seven-point road underdogs. They were also a very profitable team to wager on with an 11-2 record against the spread. The total went OVER in eight of their 13 games behind an offense that averaged 46.5 points a game.
Another reason why TCU starts the season as one of the top teams in the nation is the return of Heisman hopeful Trevone Boykin at quarterback. Last season as a junior he threw for 3,901 yards and 33 touchdowns while adding another 707 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. Over the Horned Frogs last three games to close-out last season they outscored Texas, Iowa State and Mississippi by a combined score of 145-16.
Minnesota Golden Gophers Look to get Back on Track
The Golden Gophers jumped out to a SU 6-1 start last season, but the lone loss was a 30-7 setback against TCU on Sept. 13 as 17.5-point underdogs on the road. The total in that game stayed UNDER BetAnySports closing 50.5-point line. They went on to finish the season 8-5 both SU and ATS with the total going OVER in four of their last five games.
Minnesota will have a huge hole to fill in its backfield this season with the loss of running back David Cobb to the NFL. Returning as the Golden Gophers starting quarterback is Mitch Leidner. He threw for 1,798 yards and 11 touchdowns last season as a sophomore and he was also the team’s second leading rusher with 452 yards on the ground.
It is hard to see TCU winning this game by less than two touchdowns, but my top pick in this matchup is the OVER on BetAnySports’ 57-point total line. If the Horned Frogs are able to pick up where they left off in 2014, they could probably score more than 57 points on their own this Thursday night.
