The Arizona Diamondbacks look to get back on track after last night’s 2-0 loss when they continue their three-game series with the San Francisco Giants.
Buchholz throws seven scoreless innings
Clay Buchholz (7-2, 2.25 ERA, 1.03 WHIP) threw seven scoreless innings against the Angels in Wednesday’s 5-1 win. He surrendered just four hits and no walks with seven strikeouts.
Buchholz has pitched well on the road, posting a 1.97 ERA with a complete game in eight starts. He’s 3-1 with a 1.55 ERA, an 0.97 WHIP and a complete in his last four starts.
The Diamondbacks have scored 587 runs (14th in the majors). They are putting up 4.48 runs per game (14th), hitting .240 (25th) with 144 home runs (19th).
Arizona ranks 3rd with a 3.57 ERA, 6th with a 1.22 WHIP and 7th with 1166 strikeouts.
Their bullpen ranks 2nd with a 3.12 ERA.
Paul Goldschmidt leads the Diamondbacks with 30 home runs, 76 RBI, a .395 OBP and 143 hits. David Peralta has 25 home runs, 71 RBI and a team-best .302 batting average.
Bumgarner dominates the Mets
Madison Bumgarner (5-5, 2.88 ERA, 1.24 WHIP) gave up one earned run on five hits (one home run) and no walks with eight strikeouts over eight innings in a 3-1 win against the Mets last Thursday.
Bumgarner has a 2.38 strikeout-to-walk ratio (K/BB) in 93 2/3 innings. Paul Goldschmidt is a nemesis. He is 21-for-63 (.333) with five doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI against him.
The Giants have scored 525 runs (25th in the majors). They are putting up 3.95 runs per game (25th), hitting .245 (19th) with 115 home runs (27th).
San Francisco ranks 12th with a 3.87 ERA, 15th with a 1.31 WHIP and 22nd with 1041 strikeouts.
Their bullpen ranks 8th with a 3.63 ERA.
Andrew McCutchen leads the Giants with 15 home runs, 54 RBI and 121 hits.
Evan Longoria has 14 home runs and 45 RBI and Brandon Belt has 14 home runs and 44 RBI.
MLB Trends:
The Arizona Diamondbacks are:
9-2 in their last 11 games after a loss
7-3 in their last 10 road games against a left-handed starter
6-1 in Buchholz’s last seven starts
4-1 in Buchholz’s last five road starts
The San Francisco Giants are:
1-7 in their last eight when their opponent scores two runs or less in their previous game
0-4 in their last four after scoring two runs or less in their previous game
2-5 in Bumgarner’s last seven home starts against a team with a winning record
2-5 in Bgarner’s last seven Tuesday starts
3-8 in Bumgarner’s last 11 starts when their opponent allows two runs or less in their previous game
2-8 in Bgarner’s last 10 starts after allowing two runs or less in their previous game
2-9 in Bgarner’s last 11 starts after scoring two runs or less in their previous game
1-5 in Bumgarner’s last six starts during game 2 of a series
1-7 in Bgarner’s last eight starts when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game
1-5 in Bumgarner’s last six starts against the Diamondbacks
1-7 in Bgarner’s last eight home starts against the Diamondbacks
Neither offense is putting up a ton of runs lately and I can’t pass on a dominant starter like Clay Buchholz at plus money.
