His ERA rose due to some late-season struggles that saw him go 0-3 with an 8.63 ERA in his final eight starts. McCullers was very good against the Yankees in New York on May 12. He struck out seven and allowed four hits. McCullers threw six scoreless innings in a 5-1 win. He allowed three runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings during a 13-4 home loss to the Yankees on June 30.
